Born in Houston, Texas and now residing in Wilmington, NC, Tom Rhodes has been playing music for a living since he was 16 years old. After starting out playing cover songs in bars in the DC area, he quickly progressed as a songwriter and started branching out with original projects. By the time he was a senior in high school, well-established local acts were covering his songs at their shows. As the very essence of the indie artist, Tom has never signed with a label or worked with a manager, but has a string of self-made accomplishments under his belt.

Tom moved to Brooklyn, NY in 2003 and started his solo recording career in earnest. In 2004, he recorded and self released his first album, the eponymously titled Tom Rhodes, to great reviews. This album helped to established Tom on the musical map, not only in the New York songwriter community but also abroad in the UK and Ireland. Following up that record with the even more successful No Apologies in 2006 has only worked to bolster his image as one of his generation’s most skillful songwriters.

While he is a completely independent artist, Tom’s music hasn’t gone unnoticed by the mass media. Numerous songs from both of his records have been used on radio across the U.S. and U.K., feature films, and T.V. shows in the U.S. and Japan, including teen drama Whittaker Bay and the long running daytime soap opera Guiding Light. Tom was also honored by Paste Magazine as one of their Recommended Artists for Dec. 2007/Jan. 2008, and has numerous glowing reviews of his work in papers and magazines.

Tom feels that most of his success comes from him being what is known in the music world as a “grinder”. He works constantly with a very heavy schedule of shows, constantly writing and performing songs from his mountain of material, most of which is still unreleased. Seldom taking more than a week off from playing live shows for most of his adult life has had him playing in front of hundreds of thousands of people, converting fans all along the way.

Tom is scheduled to take a break this summer and record his third record, slated for a late 2009 release. This much anticipated album will contain a number of songs written since his unexpected move from New York City to the beaches of North Carolina and if history is any indicator, will be followed by another lengthy run of shows in support of the new album.
